Frequently asked questions.

For students.

Can I get a credential from Vancouver India Education Project?

No. VIEP is not an accredited, degree- or credential-granting body. We are not a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) and are not permitted to provide letters of acceptance for legal status and eligibility in Canada.

Does signing up for a project with VIEP count for immigration?

No. Only recognized programs at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) are eligible for immigration requirements.

Do I need to submit my English scores?

No.

VIEP projects are meant to provide cross-cultural and international opportunities for communication and collaboration. The necessity to communicate effectively in English cannot be understated however, these projects are designed to reflect real-world situations. It is expected that communication happens with or between non-native English speakers, so challenges may arise. We strongly encourage the use of the plethora of translation software and programs available should communicating in English be a barrier to collaboration.

Do I have to pay anything to participate in a project?

At this time, no. VIEP is committed to funding as many projects as possible, but these are limited by the financial support we receive through member fees and sponsorships. We encourage students and groups to explore opportunities that don’t require funding or to seek funding themselves. This experience in seeking funding will no doubt prove invaluable as graduates seek employment.

Can I choose which projects I work on?

Details of the project selection process are being developed and will be shared leading up to the official launch in January 2024.

For institutions.

Can any institution join Vancouver India Education Project?

No. VIEP members are selected for membership. As the VIEP community of institutions is designed to be limited in scale, there are few opportunities available.

As VIEP grows, we will look to expand with new projects to grow our partnerships as well.

Do institutions pay a commission for students received from partner independent schools?

No. There are no commission payments of any kind associated with VIEP. All partners pay a membership fee to support the projects and benefits provided to partners. VIEP encourages active engagement and recruitment opportunities with partner institutions. We support the direct recruitment initiatives between Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and independent schools both in British Columbia and India. Commission payments between institutions for the transfer of students are strictly prohibited.

What do institutions have to do to join?

VIEP is an innovative partnership incubator that explores and facilitates opportunities between institutions. We expect an openness to new ideas, support of our programs through collaborative promotions to student bodies, and access to share ideas with key individuals responsible for international education, recruitment, sustainability, co-op/WIL/internships, digital learning, and academic innovation. We can only drive innovation in our organization and in our students through a supportive, collaborative, and positive environment.

Please don’t ask “What’s in it for us?

We prefer you ask “What can we do to contribute?”

How are members assessed?

VIEP is committed to continually improving ourselves and what we offer our partners. We are only as strong as our members. Each year, as VIEP prepares its Annual Impact Report, we will review the engagement, contributions, and partnerships with each of our members. Should a standard of expectation not be met by member institutions, VIEP reserves the right to replace those institutions with new members who commit to actively supporting the Project.
